To be a web designer or developer iou need to be expert in HTML. I think w3schools.com is a good online platform to lear HTML and many other languages. After learning HTML you need to learn css for design the website perfectly.

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) describes how HTML elements are to be displayed on screen, paper, or in other media. CSS saves a lot of work. It can control the layout of multiple web pages all. External stylesheets are stored in CSS files. 

Next you need to learn javascript. Javascript is client side programming language. It will help you to make your websites more responsive. Javascript is used to provide some extraordinary support to the websites. Javascript has many libraries like jQuery, Angular.


2. Backend(Server side):

Clients can't see the backend side. Backend is very important for websites. After completing javascript and jQuery, you need to learn PHP. Backend is also called as server side. PHP is a server side programming language. It works in backend of a website. It connects website with server. PHP is a popular programming language for web development. About 80% websites of the world use PHP for backsnd web development. PHP is the best language for web development I think.
